1929 - 2017

James “Nolan” Watkins, Sr., 88, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at his home. He was a proud Korean War Veteran of the United States Army and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of New Albany.

Nolan was born on May 8, 1929, in New Albany to the late Otis W. and Thelma C. (Knable) Watkins. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, 2 infant grandsons, and son-in-law, Ben Kost.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia “Pat” (McCauley) Watkins; children, Patty Kost (Ben), Jeanne Day (Bernie), and James Nolan “Jimmy” Watkins, Jr. (Sarah); grandchildren, Scott, Bridgett, and Suzie Kost, Emily Turland (Arthur), Angi Hauber (Lee), Jami Stumler (Ryan), Daniel Day (Jessica), and Ariana and James Watkins; and great-grandchildren, Eric Popp, Jennifer Davis, Adalee and Evie Turland, Luke and Lucy Hauber, and Colton and Lyla Stumler.

Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 4, 2017, at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) with a Rosary Service at 4:30 p.m. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2017, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Albany with cremation to follow according to Nolan’s wishes. Burial and military honors will be held at a later date at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery.

Contributions in Nolan’s memory may be made to St. Vincent DePaul (415 East 8th St. New Albany, Indiana 47150).
