Dean Longest Tyler, 89, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2016. He was a lifetime member of The Church of Latter-Day Saints in New Albany. Dean was a United States Navy veteran who served during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Bonnie Sloan Post #28 and the VFW Post #1693.

He was born on October 11, 1926, to the late Chester and Garnet Tyler. Along with his parents, Dean was preceded in death by his sons, Michael and Alan Tyler; his brother, Edsel Tyler; and son-in-law, George Tom.

Dean is survived by his wife of nearly 73 years, Imo (Longest) Tyler; daughter, Lynn Tom; brother, Joseph Tyler; grandchildren, Tracey (Matt), Nicole (Mike), Shaine, Dallas (Amy), Jessie (Tony), Jacob, Jenna (Jordan), and Justin (Carol); and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 4, 2016, at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (1534 Slate Run Road, New Albany, Indiana) with burial to follow at English Cemetery in English, Indiana.
