Jay Robert Briles, 62, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2016. He was a 1971 graduate of New Albany High School and retired from the railroad. Jay was a dedicated and hard worker with a great sense of humor, always full of compassion for others. He was a member of the Jaycees Club, a euchre club, and an avid IU Hoosier basketball fan. Jay enjoyed traveling and taking road trips, as well as history and watching golf.

He was born on October 8, 1953 in New Albany to Jack Briles, Sr. and the late Betty (Lear) Briles. Jay was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Elizabeth Briles Cardona.

Along with his father, Jay is survived by his wife, Sherilynn (Springer) Briles; children, Katherine Cardona (Adam), Beth Briles Hampton, Jacquline Schulz (TJ); step-children, Adrian Ramos (Nicole), Anthony Ramos (Danielle), Natalie Hernandez (Luis), Lorrin Ramos, Mariah Ramos; siblings, Jack Briles, Jr. (Alma), Virginia Goodhue, John Briles, Sr. (Dawn); 14 grandchildren with one on the way; and 2 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 12 PM to 2 PM Saturday, May 28, 2016, at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday in the chapel at the funeral home with cremation to follow according to Jay’s wishes.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the ALS Foundation of Indiana (6525 E. 82nd Street, Suite 115, Indianapolis, IN 46250) or to Hosparus – the Community Hospice of Southern Indiana (502 Hausfeldt Lane, New Albany, IN 47150).
