Clarence Cowherd, Jr., 72, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2018. He was a member of St. John Divine Pure Gospel Church and a member of the Quartermaster VFW Post 1832 in Jeffersonville. Clarence was a proud Army veteran of the Vietnam War and loved to work in his garden, have cookouts, and be with his grandchildren.

He was born on October 10, 1945, in Jeffersonville to Adline (Harris) and Clarence H. Cowherd, Sr. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Richard Cowherd, Juanita Gordon, and Roy Cowherd.

Clarence is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Lavonne (Burr) Cowherd; children, Sherita Hocutt, Terrence Cowherd, Shedeana Edelen, Kevin Cowherd, and Vanessa Cowherd; siblings, Geneva Ellis, Bernice Phillips, and William Cowherd; 13 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2018, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana 47150). His Funeral Service will at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with burial and military honors to follow at Eastern Cemetery in Jeffersonville.

Memorial Contributions in Clarence’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society (1640 Lyndon Farm Court, #104, Louisville, Kentucky 40223).
