In Memory Of
Joseph Donald "Don" Kaelin
1925 - 2018
Don had been in the 443 Troop Carrier Divisions in the old Army Air Corps in WW II. His unit dropped paratroopers and gliders on D-Day.
Don had been manager at Millers Cafeteria for over 35 years and had also worked at the Pitchin Wedge. He made so many friends over the years at these places. Don had also been Vice President of the KY Restaurant Association, charter member of River Road Country Club, and a trustee of Woodhaven Country Club where he went almost every day to putt on the putting green.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 71 years Stella Miller Kaelin, daughter Karen Kaelin Scully, grandson Brian T. Scully M.D. , granddaughter Erin S. Munoz R.N. and her sons London, Liam, and Leighton Munoz and brother William Kaelin. He was preceded in death by his siblings Mary Catherine Liebert, Louis Kaelin, Jack Kaelin, Dorothy Bauer, and Marcie Pollard.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 26, 2018 from 4-8pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, East Louisville Chapel in Middletown and funeral Mass on Friday, April 27, 2018 at 12o’clock noon at St. Joseph Catholic Church (1406 East Washington Street, Louisville, KY 40206) with entombment to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery.
One of Don’s favorite jokes he said to most of the young ladies he met was “You must have been eating bullets cause your hair is coming out in bangs!”
Don was the most loving and caring person a wife and daughter could ever have and will be missed every day.
