Richard Allen Ackerman, Sr., 91, formerly of Louisville, Kentucky, left this world on Monday, September 19, 2022 in Richmond, Kentucky.

He was born in Louisville, Kentucky on April 30, 1931 to the late Henry "Buck" Ackerman and Cora Mae Jennings Ackerman.

Richard spent the majority of his career in the insurance business. After retiring from insurance, he spent five years working at Disney World in Orlando, Florida. He left Disney with fond memories. His hobbies were watching UK sports and spending time at Keeneland and Churchill Downs following his love of horse racing.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Dolores Wittry Ackerman; his son, Martin Thomas Ackerman; and his brother, Donald Ackerman.

Richard is survived by his son, Richard "Chip" Ackerman (Ruth Ann); granddaughters, Hayley Ackerman and Laura Suiter (Bryan); great grandchildren, Nathan Campbell, Bryce, Grant, and Claire Suiter; sister-in-law, Janet Ackerman; brother-in-law, Rick Raymer (Martha); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at 12:30pm on Thursday, September 29, 2022 followed by a Celebration of Life beginning at 1:30 pm at Middletown United Methodist Church, 11902 Old Shelbyville Road, Louisville, KY, 40243.
