In Memory Of
Leoda Kay (Matthey) Lee
1942 - 2022

Leoda "Kay" (Matthey) Lee, 80, graduated to the heavenly choir on Monday, July 4, 2022, where she will be joined by her mother and father, Wilma and Erlo "Swift" Matthey of Salem, West Virginia. Besides the angels, she is also singing alongside her sisters, Toni Earldine Morrison and Virginia Mae Wheeler.

Keeping the choir going here on earth is her husband of 63 years, Mervin Ray Lee, Sr.; her son, Mervin Ray Lee, Jr. (DeeAnn); daughter, Glinda K. (Lee) Ledford (Scott); grandchildren, Sarah Beth Lee and Matthew Ray Lee (Priscilla); and step-grandchildren, Brian Ledford and Amanda Ledford. In the children's choir are great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Haylee, and Audrey Spitznagel, and Maci Kay Lee; six step-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Betty Williams and Glenda Jordan.

Kay was born on March 24, 1942, in Salem, West Virginia, to Erlo and Wilma Matthey. She was the baby of five sisters that were not just sisters, but also lifelong best friends.

Mervin Ray Lee, Sr., asked her to marry him, and they both said, "I do," on June 27, 1959, some 63 years ago. Through their years, they enjoyed horseback riding, motorcycle riding, and traveling, but mostly singing together. From gospel to country, the harmony through music and their love echoed for all to enjoy.

Although she attended and sang at many churches throughout her lifetime, sat through many amazing teachings and preachers, her final church home was at Elevation in Scottsburg, Indiana.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 8, 2022, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Saturday after 9:00 a.m. Her funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Miller Cemetery in Borden.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Kay's memory may be made to Kindred Hospice (391 Quartermaster Court, Jeffersonville, IN 47130).

Leoda's services will be livestreamed at the scheduled service time. Click Here to view the services.
