1936 - 2022

Ned Augustine Harris died peacefully in his sleep, at home, surrounded by his loving wife and children, early Tuesday morning May 17, 2022. Ned, was the eldest of four children; born on June 4, 1936, to the late Augustine and Juanita Gazaway Harris in Louisville, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald; sister, Sandra and grandson, D. J. Turpin.

He was a proud graduate of Central High School and Bellarmine University. He was a devout Christian faithfully worshiping at Ridgewood Baptist Church.

Ned was partner/business owner of The Bennington Corporation, a Management Consulting firm, working with minority highway contractors in Kentucky, North Carolina and Georgia, where he made an indelible mark.

He is survived by his wife, Jo-Ann; sister, Ruth (Jarrett) Thomas; children, Juanita Turpin, Cheri Smith, Yvette Kemp, Mark Harris and Kevin Harris; step children, Kim (Dennis) Staley, Shannon (Steve) Collins and Jenny Johnson; 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 6 adopted grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

The Celebration of Life service will be held at Ridgewood Baptist Church, 6209 Greenwood Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40258, on June 4, 2022, at 4 p.m. to honor Ned. The family requests everyone to wear “Red for Ned.” Due to the rise in COVID, we ask that you please wear a mask. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Ridgewood Baptist Church or Hospice.
