Claire Violet (Brown) Miller
1934 - 2022

Claire Violet (Brown) Miller, 87, passed away in the company of family on Sunday, January 9, 2022 in Louisville, KY.

Claire was born in Elizabeth, NJ on August 6, 1934, the daughter of William and Katie Brown. She graduated from Linden High School, where she was co-editor of the school newspaper, member of the Drama Club and cheerleading squad, and played softball, basketball and badminton.

She soon met and married the love of her life, John Lloyd Miller, Jr. from Roselle, NJ. As they built a life and family together, they resided in Roselle Park, New Brunswick, Westfield, and most recently, Little Egg Harbor, all in New Jersey. Claire was probably the best athlete in the family; a life-long tennis player and always game to try new things like skeet shooting. She was a Yankee fan like her father, and a great supporter of Rutgers football and basketball. She loved spending time with family and friends, especially on vacations down the Shore, and was always a most gracious and thoughtful hostess. She had a kind heart and a great sense of humor. She was very generous with her time and efforts, doing everything from teaching special needs kids to swim, to serving as a Cub Scout Den Mother, to teaching Sunday School to being the loudest fan at each of her boys’ wrestling matches. She was very active with the Presbyterian Churches in Elizabeth, Westfield and Tuckerton. She loved to sing and, boy, could she dance.

Claire is predeceased by her parents and her sisters Helen (Veverka) and Edith (Roberts). She is survived by her husband of 66 years John Lloyd Miller, Jr; her children John Lloyd Miller III of Nashville, TN, William B. Miller and wife Michele of Hudson Falls, NY, Mark A. Miller and wife Jodie of Milton, WV, and Laura Devlin and husband Brad of Louisville, KY; 12 wonderful grandchildren and six beautiful great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Tuckerton on Sunday, July 17, 2022 at 4:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the First Presbyterian Church of Tuckerton, 210 E. Main Street, Tuckerton, NJ 08087 (609-296-8894).
