Richard M. Kemp, 80, of Georgetown, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, April 17, 2021. Richard retired from Gates Rubber Company and was a bus driver for New Albany-Floyd County Schools for over 10 years. He loved woodworking and collecting fire department memorabilia. When it came to sports, Richard was a big Green Bay Packers and Louisville Cardinals fan. He always had a love for anything automotive and in his younger years spent time volunteering for Richard Petty's pit crew. He was also a certified arson investigator for the state of Indiana. Richard's greatest source of pride was the honor of serving as Fire Chief for Georgetown Township Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years. The brotherhood he formed there was something he always cherished.
He was born on January 5, 1941 in Albany, New York to the late Robert and Dorothy Davis Kemp. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Drew Sears.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Armintie Kemp; daughter, Debbie Kemp of California; son, Ron (Lorie) Kemp of West Virginia; daughter, Kelli (Bryan) Temple of Indiana; brother, Bill (Linda) Kemp of California; sister, Marje (Greg) Chavez of Virginia; grandchildren, Rachel, Matt, Alex, Kayley, Ellie, Jarod, Jordan, Brayli, Violet, and Penelope.
Cremation was chosen following Richard's wishes. A Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will be at 3:00 pm on Sunday, June 27 at the Georgetown Township Fire Protection District Station 2 (5610 Corydon Ridge Rd, Georgetown, IN 47122).
The family requests that contributions in Richard’s memory be made to the Georgetown Township Volunteer Fire Department Crusade for Children.
