James William "Jim" Mann, Jr.
1944 - 2020
James (Jim) William Mann, Jr. passed away peacefully at home on September 25th after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.
Jim was born on July 17th, 1944 in Huntingdon, TN. He grew up working on his parents’ farm and in their general store. After high school, he worked at Farmer’s Co-Op in Huntingdon before moving with his family to Murray, Ky, where he served as a supervisor at Parker Popcorn. The family then moved to Madisonville, Ky, where they owned a snack distributorship and shop. Even after selling their business and moving to Louisville to be closer to their children, Jim never stopped working, walking everyday to Bunton Seed-where he could be trusted to greet all customers with a smile and friendly conversation.
Although he never went to college, Jim was fiercely intelligent; he loved to read and he loved to learn (he read the encyclopedia for fun). He was also an incredibly talented and creative person. He and his father built the first house his family lived in, he could fix most anything, and he was always quick with a joke, a very tall tale, or an obscure reference. Jim was kind to everyone he met, and anyone who came into contact with him enjoyed his company. He loved his family deeply, and he provided for them with a strong work ethic.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ardelle. He is survived by Carolyn (Johnson), his wife of 51 years, his daughters Kim, Melissa (TJ), son John (Lissy), sister Martha (Hugh, nephew Dustin) and eight grandchildren-Elizabeth, Ethan, Lily, Aiden, Audrey, Etta, Clara, and Lisa.
The family will be holding a celebration of life service at a later date.
The family would like to thank Hosparus, Home Instead, and Dr. Marquess for their care of Jim.
