Dora Ann (Ruddell) Hammett
1941 - 2019

Dora Ann Ruddell "Dory" Hammett, 77, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2019. She was surrounded by her loving family and caregivers.

Dory was born in Jeffersonville, Indiana to Maxwell Duncan and Virgie Cecelia Ashworth Ruddell on December 15, 1941.

Before retirement, she was the executive assistant to the president of Liberty National Bank/Chase Bank for many years. Since retiring, she enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Dory is survived by her two children (and spouses), Gregory Allen Hammett (Gretchen) and Laura Hammett Drexler (Andy); four grandchildren, Zachary Drexler, Jordan Drexler, Cullen Hammett and Lindsey Drexler; her brother, Ralph J. Ruddell (Theresa); sister-in-law, Miriam Parris; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Allen Hammett; her parents; and three brothers, Maxwell, Donald and Albert Ruddell.

The family wishes to thank all of her wonderful caregivers for their dedication and loving care over the last few years, especially Theresa Ruddell and Stephanie Mattingly.

Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Her Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, at the funeral home. Dory will be laid to rest privately at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association (6100 Dutchmans Ln Ste 401, Louisville, KY 40205-3284) in Dory’s memory.
