Robert Herman "Bob" Ambers
1935 - 2019

Robert Herman Ambers, 83, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Monday, June 17, 2019. He was a United States Army veteran and carpet layer by trade. Bob attended Parkwood Church of the Nazarene and loved racing at the Sportsdrome. He possessed a mechanical mind and also enjoyed fishing, playing golf, and going camping.

He was born on July 8, 1935, in New Albany, Indiana, to the late Roy and Edna (Bobbitt) Ambers. Bob was also preceded in death by his son, Robert Amber; daughter, Susan Ambers-Durbin; former wife, Barbara Ann Ambers; and long-time fiancée, Flora Dillbeck.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Ruby Bowling; son, Gerald Ambers (Jennifer Gilstrap); siblings, Roy, Robert, Clara Mae, Elizabeth, Judy, Roger, Louis, Freddy, Herman, Joanne, Eddie, Dale, Charles, and Stephan; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 2019, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Saturday after 10:00 a.m. His funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday in the chapel at the funeral home with cremation to follow according to Bob's wishes. He will be laid to rest privately at a later date at Horner's Chapel in Palmyra, Indiana.

Contributions in Bob’s memory be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675).
