1940 - 2019

Minnie Catherine "Cathy" (Poe) Schindler, 78, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2019. Cathy was a member of St. Mary of the Annunciation-Navilleton Catholic Church and was an avid quilter and seamstress.

She was born on September 29, 1940, in Shelbyville, Kentucky, to the late Roscoe Poe and Daisy (Lopp) Poe Maihori. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Tommy Poe, Virginia Davis, Nancy Williams, and Sue Sexton; grandchildren, Matthew and Eric Newkirk; and stepdaughter, Anita Olliges.

Cathy is survived by her husband, Leon Schindler, children, Billy (Angela) Newkirk, Jr., Jeffery Newkirk, Danny Newkirk, and Dana (Mike) Chappell; stepchildren, Jean Minter (Bob), Leon W. Schindler, and Kathi Klotz (Martin); brother, Kenneth (Barb) Poe; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2019, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, IN 47150). Her Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 22, 2019, at St. Mary of the Annunciation-Navilleton Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family requests that contributions in Cathy’s memory be made to the Parkinson's Foundation.
