In Memory Of
Imogene "Jean" Lawrence
1926 - 2018

Imogene "Jean" R. Lawrence, our sweet mama- she was born on November 14, 1926, the youngest of 3 children to Claud and Gladys (Humphrey) Robinson in Bremen, Kentucky (Muhlenberg County). Her small town country values of family, love and work ethic shaped her for her whole life.

Upon graduation from Bremen High School, her cousins asked if she would like to move to Louisville, Kentucky to share their apartment in the Highlands and work at a local bank (Citizens Bank) an opportunity she couldn't turn down. She settled in to the city life and after a while some mutual friends set her up with a handsome guy who had just returned home from serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II. A 3 month courtship began and on August 1, 1946 Jean Robinson married James Lawrence and thus began their loving marriage that lasted until Daddy's death in September, 2009.

Mom and Dad's love was shared with their four children and spouses: Rita Cunningham (Mike); Debby Brown (Ray); James Keith Lawrence who died in 2014 (Robin who died in 1976); and Donna Gaines (John). Joy was shared with 6 grandchildren: Philip Brown, Jimmy Cunningham (Meg), Courtney Fages (Tim), Ryan Lawrence (Lindsay), Kelly Banta (Craig), and Christopher Peabody (Ashley) and with 8 great-grandchildren: Gabriele, Timmy, Channah, Benny, Colton, Joseph, Henry and Ayvin.

It was our honor as her daughters to make sure when Mom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2013 that she would not face it alone. Her courage and determination during those 5 years were a testament to why she was so admired by those who knew her. Twice she beat the cancer but when the tumor came back in 2017 we all knew it was our constant attention to give joy and love and support as she refused any future treatment. What was an expected 2 months turned into 12 months before her body became too tired to recover during which her sense of humor and gratefulness for each day was an inspiration to all.

We would like to thank Father Andrew and the good folks of St. Paul's Episcopal Church for prayers and support and her two earthly angels in nurses uniforms at Norton Cancer Institute, Whitney and Greta, during Mom's treatments. The Hosparus team, especially Ashley, who were always available for calls and visits whenever Mom needed them.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 from 12:45pm until the time of the funeral service at 1:15pm at St. Paul's Episcopal Church (4700 Lowe Road Louisville, KY 40220) with burial to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery.

Mom would appreciate memorial contributions in her memory to go to St. Paul's Episcopal Church (4700 Lowe Road Louisville, KY 40220).
