He was born on August 26, 1934 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Cecil, Sr. and Alice (Clarkson) Lunsford.
Sonny was a active member of the Kosairs Shrine Brass Band and was the director in the 1980's and was a 50 year Mason. Music was Sonny's life starting as the first drum major at Eastern High School in 1950, next joining The Kentuckians and playing on the Belle of Louisville for 15 years on the Saturday Night Cruise and later as a duet with Don Ford at the Executive West Hotel for the Sunday Brunch. After moving to Florida in 1990, Sonny joined and played with The Recycles for 10 years.
Cecil is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Sharlene Lunsford, children, Connie Moser (Paul), David Lunsford, Christe Lunsford (Dianna Ott), brother, Robert "Mickey" Lunsford (Jacqueline), three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of the memorial service at 12:00 pm on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (235 Juneau Drive Louisville, KY 40243). Burial will be private at Resthaven Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
The family requests that contributions in Cecil’s memory be made to Kosair Children's Hospital and/or the donors choice.
