In Memory Of
Douglas Bishop
1945 - 2015

Douglas Bishop, 69, passed away at his home in Louisville, KY, on April 24. The son of Elizabeth Farnell and W. Alfred Farnell, Doug grew up in Mohawk, NY. He graduated with degrees in Hotel and Restaurant Administration from SUNY Delhi and Oklahoma State University.

He helped open the first McDonald’s restaurant in the Mohawk Valley, and managed Hardee’s restaurants in several locations across the south. Doug worked for the city of Milwaukee tax department; as a training manager with the Milwaukee, WI, school system; as a police officer in Madisonville, KY; and as a bus driver for Bloomington (IN) Transit. He retired from TARC in Louisville in 2003.

Doug is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carol, and brothers Alf and Tom Farnell. Uncle Doug will be missed by his nieces and nephews who he considered to be his own children and loved dearly; by his great niece and nephews; and by his extended family of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and cousins.

Doug will be remembered for his generosity, his humor, his loving heart, and his admirable abilities to worry only about things he could control and to forgive and forget without reservation. He made friends easily and kept them for a lifetime. He was passionate about cars. He enjoyed researching and looking at them and knew more about them than most sales people. He also enjoyed travel and reading.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 5, 2015 from 1 PM-2 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home East Louisville Chapel, with a Memorial Service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Kentucky Humane Society and Dare to Care Food Bank.
