William Donald Leslie, 1932-2015

“One of Louisville’s Finest”

Passed away peacefully at his home in Highlands Ranch, CO with his family beside him on March 19, 2015.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Joan (Huebner) Leslie.

Visitation and Memorial services to be held at Newcomer Funeral Home Chapel, 901 South Sheridan, Lakewood, CO on Monday March 30 at 10am; private internment to follow at Fort Logan National Cemetery.

A second visitation and memorial to be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 10304 Dixie Highway, Louisville, KY 40272 on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 from 4-8 pm.

The family has asked in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Denver Rescue Mission, and with our most heartfelt gratitude to The Denver Hospice for his care in the final weeks.

Born in Louisville, KY to Murray and Mary Jude Leslie. Bill graduated from Manual High School, followed by his service in the US Army. He then began a 28 year proud and decorated career as a police officer in the City of Louisville Police Department, retiring with the rank of Colonel and the position of Deputy Chief in the Department. Finally, completing his career in the US Federal Marshall’s office before moving to Colorado.

Other survivors include brothers Boyce Leslie and Richard Leslie.
Children; Sherry Atkins (Mark), Todd Leslie (Kathy), Terri Pavy (Tim Rickerd), Martin Bassett, Brian Bassett, (Cathie), LaDonna Shumacher (Paul), Devi Willett(Todd) and Billy Denton (Karen), daughter–in-law, Phyllis Leslie

“Big Daddy” to grandchildren: Danny Craven, Kyle Peerce, Cole Pavy, Caleb Pavy, Angela Holbrook, Leigha Leonard, Hannah Bassett, Moira Scheer, Sammy Leslie, Josh Atkins, Terry Lee Leslie Jr., Tiffany Leslie, Susan Leslie, Isiah Willett, Cara Willett and Maria Shumacher; also numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Pre-deceased by parents, sisters Joan Clark and Mary Lynn Leslie; son, Terry Lee Leslie and granddaughters, Madison Bassett and Victoria Leslie
