In 1947, she was the secretary for the superintendent of Beloit schools, Joseph Rhodes. Later on, she also served as secretary for both the Beloit College Music Department and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

At a very early age, Helen was interested in and showed much talent for music, both playing piano and singing. She had a beautifully trained mezzo-soprano voice. While living in Wisconsin, Helen was a member of the Beloit Treble Clef, Masterwork Chorus, she had a radio program in the early years of WBEL with her mother, she sang on a soap commercial for a local television station, she sang and played for many weddings and funerals in the Beloit area, she sang in the opera “Amahl and the Night Visitors”, and she soloed with the Beloit/Janesville Symphony Orchestra on several occasions. In the mid 1960’s, she learned to play the pipe organ and, in 1967, she accepted the job as church organist at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and remained there for 30+ years. After retiring and moving to Louisville, Kentucky in 1999, she continued substituting at several local churches, sang with the church choir, and was a member of the American Guild of Organists.

Helen married Herbert Vincent Buehl on September 3, 1949. She was a very loving and caring wife and mother. Her spirit was pure and she loved unconditionally. Her infectious smile and positive attitude made everyone who came into her presence feel welcome and comfortable.
