1942 - 2018

Shirley Jean (Gorden) Tutt Hawkins, 75, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2018. She was a member of Second Baptist Church in New Albany. Shirley had been an employee at the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant in Charlestown, IMCO, as well as Airguard, and later became a private caregiver where she truly excelled. She enjoyed both gardening and bingo as they were a source of relief and enjoyment.

She was born on December 20, 1942, in Climax, Georgia, to the late Charlie and Geneva (Lee) Gorden. Shirley was also preceded in death by her husband, William “Joe” Hawkins; and siblings, Herman and Lugene Gorden.

Shirley is survived by her children, Rev. Dwayne Tutt (Janice), Rev. Henry Tutt (Linda), Michael Tutt (Frieda), Rev. Angela Tutt, Min. Karen Woods (Kenneth), and Tyler Hawkins (Sarita); honorary daughters, Marilyn Washington and Jackie Wiggins; sister, Carolyn Gorden; brother, Nathaniel Gorden (Vera); and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 22, 2018, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Friday after 10:00 a.m. at the church. Her Funeral Service will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Friday at First Baptist Church Jefferson Gardens (3725 St. Joseph Road, New Albany) with burial to follow at West Haven Cemetery in New Albany.

Contributions in Shirley’s memory may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (301 East Main Street, Suite 100, Louisville, Kentucky 40202).
