Fred was a 1956 graduate of St. Charles Preparatory School in Columbus, Ohio and also attended Ohio State University. He served in the U.S. Army from July of 1958 until July of 1962.
He was a lifelong member of St. Louis Bertrand Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 10682, The American Legion and The Gilda's Club.
Fred was born on November 26, 1938 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Frederick, Sr., and Marghreta (Powers) Richards. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Julie Richards and brothers; John and Jerry Richards.
He is survived by his sons, Dr. Michael Richards (Beth), Dr. Stephen Richards (Natalie), daughter, Jennifer Howell (Scott); grandchildren, Hank, Katie, Andrew, Will, Matthew, Ben, Tyler, and Ali. He is also survived by his sister Jane Irwin (Robert).
Visitation will be from 4:00pm until 8:00pm on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY 40243).
Mass will be held 9:30am on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at St. Louis Bertrand Catholic Church (1104 South 6th Street Louisville, KY, 40203) with burial to follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff, KY.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Louis Bertrand Catholic Church and/or the Robley Rex V.A. Hospital.
