Joseph Michael Johnson, 48, of Salem, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2017. He was a self-employed painter and an avid fisherman. Joe wore his heart on his sleeve, never met a stranger, and was a friend to many.

He was born on November 8, 1968, in Louisville, Kentucky. Joe was preceded in death by his grandparents, Glessie Kellogg Henry, James Kellogg, and Robert Johnson.

Joe is survived by his wife of 17 years, Amy (Simmons) Johnson; children, Robyn, Joseph, Codey, and Lindsey Johnson; mother, Linda (Kellogg) Brown and her husband, Mack; sister, Stacey Johnson; step-siblings, Lenny Bellou, Debbie Kost (Bryant), Donna Hammack (Terry), Mike Brown (Tina), and Mark Brown (Rocia); Grandmother, Donna Johnson; grandchildren, Mercedes, Jayden, and Olivia; niece, Amber Barnes; and childhood friend, Steve Sanders. Survivors also include Joe Thompson, along with many cousins and good friends.

Cremation was chosen following Joe’s wishes. Joe had a special place in his heart for animals, and the family requests that contributions in his memory be made to any local animal shelter.
