In Memory Of
Joetta Elizabeth Robinson
1918 - 2017

A tobacco sharecropper's proud daughter, Joetta was born June 6, 1918, in Bluff Boom, just outside of Campbellsville, KY, and for most of her adult life, she resided in Jeffersontown, KY.

A graduate of historic Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Lexington, Joetta later attended KY State University, where she met her husband of 61 years, William C. Robinson. They were married in Versailles and were blessed to raise 4 children & 1 grandchild, all of whom received Joetta’s special brand of support & encouragement. She particularly loved to fill her life with Music & the Arts, and she shared that love with all of her children.

Baptized at an early age, Joetta was originally a member of Pleasant Run Baptist Church, Green County. In the early 1940s, she became a very dedicated & active member of the First Baptist Church of J-town, where over the decades, she was a Sunday School teacher, church historian, church custodian, director of the Youth Choir, and a stalwart member of the Senior Choir. Blessed to become the eldest member of her church, she was also honored as a “Member for Life” by the NAACP.

Joetta especially loved to “Praise the Lord with Music” and found true joy in singing the old-time hymns from memory, even up until her final days. A humorous mimic, an avid housekeeper and gardener, she loved beautiful things, especially beautiful flowers, and she devoutly practiced her belief that cleanliness is next to Godliness. Even when bedbound, she continued to delight in having pretty things around her, while never forgetting to smile politely and thank her caregivers for their many kindnesses. Her gentle ways will be missed by all of us.

Joetta was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Ezra & Augusta Pryor Miller; her esteemed husband William; talented daughter Cassandra; and younger brothers Andrew and George Miller. She leaves behind to mourn: her youngest brother Carl Miller; three surviving children: Phillip, Claude (Mary Ellen) and Jo-Lynn; six grandchildren: JanKeith, Lany, Sean, Jason, Michelle & Roxanne, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Sarah Graves; many nieces and nephews; and her faithful friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 21, 2017 from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Jeffersontown (10600 Watterson Trail, Louisville, KY 40299). A funeral service to honor the life of Joetta will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at church. Burial will follow at Simpson Historic Cemetery, in Louisville, Kentucky.
