He was an Army veteran. Larry was born in New York, and as the child of a career Air Force father traveled extensively. When he followed his brother to Kentucky, he fell in love with the Commonwealth and made it his home.
He was an avid fan of all Louisville Cardinal Sports and a fan of Bellarmine basketball. He could be heard often calling into sports talk radio and was affectionately called “Bellarmine Larry.”
Larry coached hockey for several years. He developed players that went onto major colleges and careers in the National Hockey League. He was president of the New York Islanders fan club for players Clark Gilles, Bryan Trottier, Mike Bossy and Billy Harris during the years the Islanders won 4 straight Stanley Cups. Hall of Fame player, Bryan Trottier, is the Godfather to Larry’s daughter, Amanda.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Barbara Hill.
